SHIN SPLINTS

SHIN SPLINTS - STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO AVOID SHIN SPLINTS

SHIN splints occur due to repetitive stress to the bones, muscles and joints of the lower leg.

Individuals that are involved in high impact activities like dance, running, tennis, soccer, basketball etc. are at high risk of developing shin splints. ▶️Here are a few steps to how you can avoid shin splints 👍👍👍

✔ Warm up before any high impact activity. Stretch well before and after your training.

✔ Strength Training for leg and foot muscles is a must if you are planning to get involved in any high impact sports.

✔ Increase your training load gradually. Sudden increase in training load or time can lead to shin splints.

✔ Wear shoes that fit you well and give good cushioning. Avoid wearing worn out shoes.

✔ People with flat feet should use insoles in their shoes. It helps by preventing direct impact on the leg joints.

✔ Avoid Running on hard, uneven or slanted surfaces especially if you are a beginner and not trained well.

✔ That brings me to the last point. Don't push through the pain. Take rest, compression, icing and let it recover. Consult a doctor if the pain does not recover with rest.
